Assumption Knights of Columbus Meeting Minutes – September 17, 2019
Meeting preceded by Rosary, communion service, and meal.
Called to order 7:15 PM
Roll call – Not present: Advocate Bill Grell, Deputy Grand Knight Merlyn Wiese, and Trustees Travis Risvold and Shannon Godwin.
Tom Letsch made a motion to waive the reading of the minutes, Tony Slack seconded the motion; motion passed.

Welcome to new member Jason England! Jason lives in Polk City and is Gretchen Watznauer’s brother. Joe Henkels reminded us to invite other to join the Knights.
Grand Knight’s report: Thank you for so many Knights stepping up without being asked.
District Deputy: We are an active council, but we need to recruit more.
Treasure’s report: $8,866 in checking (~$4,000 is from CPID Tootsie Roll Drive – Dave is still collecting CPID funds from businesses), $16,967 in CD, and $7,160 in Bill Geneser Scholarship CD.
Financial Secretary: Dues will be mailed out soon. Please send dues payment in as soon as possible. Several Knights paid dues by credit card at the meeting. We are hoping to have an online dues payment system set up for next year.
The grill is in rough shape. A new grill was purchased and used for the Intervisions dinner/dance. The bill for the new grill was $475.95.
The Intervisions dinner/dance was a big success. There was a record number of attendees, and ~$30,000 was raised. There is an open house for the new clinic this Monday, October 21st. There is a plan to carpool from church at 5 PM.
Breakfast held on Sunday, October 13 was held to benefit the youth group. We had good help from the youth group, and ~$500 was raised. Youth group is planning to use the funds for homeless outreach.
Next breakfast is planned for November 10th. Joe Henkels made a motion to use the funds to benefit coats for kids; Tony Slack seconded the motion; motion passed.
Knights Mass previous weekend was very poorly attended. Please make an effort to participate more.
We had a request from another council to purchase 15 raffle tickets for $10 each ($150) benefiting Hispanic seminarians endowment. We were also asked for $100 to support Christmas care packages for seminarians. Jodi Bermel made a motion spend $250 to support these initiatives; Tom Letsch seconded the motion; motion passed.
Paul Hauser presented an idea to have a fun run at Jester Park to raise money for Mary’s Meals. This is planned for November 23rd.
We have been asked to contribute to purchase new tables for the gym. We decided we need to get more information about this and decided to defer the decision.
Joe Henkels talked about the Joppa Down & Out fundraiser. Tables cost $1,250. Joe has agreed to personally fund $700, and he asked for the Knights to contribute $500. Joe made a motion; Jodi seconded the motion; motion passed.
There will be an officers meeting 10:00 AM Saturday, October 19 at the Food Depot.
Trunk or treat is planned for Sunday, October 27th.
Fall cleanup of church grounds is planned for November 16th. Rain date will be November 23rd.
We have been asked to provide hospitality November 16th & 17th after all Masses.
Shannon is not coordinating fish frys next year. We need multiple people to stem up and lead.
VA Terrain Therapy Garden is underway!
