Assumption Knights of Columbus Meeting Minutes – November 21, 2019
Meeting was preceded by Rosary, Mass, and meal.
Called to order 7:15 PM
Roll call – Not present: Advocate Bill Grell, and Trustees Kendall Geneser and Shannon Godwin.
Ken Wiley made a motion to waive the reading of the minutes, Tony Slack seconded the motion; motion passed (Travis opposed the motion).
Chaplains message: Fr. Dominic sends his thanks for our support of the Ghana well project and Fr. encourages everyone to attend the upcoming mission December 8-10. Dc. Dennis reminded us that Christmas is just around the corner. Use these 4 weeks as a time of preparation to celebrate Christ’s first coming.
Welcome to new members Jim Gilchrist (1st degree ceremony was prior to meeting), and Tom Stillman (transfer from Emmetsburg. Also, Andrew Danner will be transferring to our council from OLIH Ankeny.
Grand Knight’s report: There was a great turnout for the Parish grounds cleanup. Thank You for helping last weekend by providing the hospitality table following 5PM Mass and breakfast Sunday morning. Thank you to Tom and Kendall who purchased and delivered the “Coats for Kids”.
Treasure’s report: $10,938 in checking, $16,967 in CD, and $7,160 in Bill Geneser Scholarship CD. $4,700 in checking is allocated CPID Tootsie Roll Drive – ½ will go to Special Olympics, ¼ will go to On With Life, and ¼ will go to Camp Sunnyside.
Financial Secretary: Dues collection is going well. Please send dues payment in as soon as possible. Cards for those that have paid were distributed at the meeting. Travis and Joe are helping out on a team to collect dues from inactive members or get them off of our rolls if they no longer wish to belong.
InterVision’s open house: The Knights of Columbus was recognized for our support in purchasing a new ultrasound machine.
Our next breakfast is scheduled for December 8th. It will be an omelet breakfast, and the proceeds will go to Social Justice Committee for Tamanique scholarships.
It was decided to do a $250 donation to the Joppa Down and Out fundraiser dinner instead of going in to purchase a table.
It was decided to keep Hot Rods and Hogs on the same weekend. Ken Wiley has a plan to streamline car registration to avoid backups. A registration packet could be handed out, and the cars could be parked immediately. The registration could then be completed after the cars are parked.
There is a plan to order a Knights of Columbus table banner. To be used at Knights events.
Tony mentioned that robes will no longer be used for 1st degree ceremonies. Sashes will be used instead.
Fish shack preparations are under way with a focus on safety.
Paul Hauser told us about a 5K walk/run which will be held at Jester Park to raise money for Mary’s Meals. The plan is to meet at 2PM at shelter #2.
The Joppa Christmas Party will be Friday, December 20 at HyVee Hall. We will be providing food. We will be hauling food to HyVee Hall Starting at 5PM. We will start serving at 6:30PM.
There is a 2nd/3rd Degree planned for December 14th at the West Des Moines Marriot. Plan to arrive at 12:30.
The next Knights meeting will be scheduled one week sooner. It is planned for Thursday, December 12th, and will be in conjunction with the Catholic Women’s Club.
Travis told us that the nursing home had requested that we move this month’s bingo to the 29th. It is normally scheduled for the third Sunday of each month. Please bring your kids. The residents really enjoy that.
