Knights of Columbus Meeting May 17, 2018.
Meeting preceded by Rosary, Mass, and meal.
7:45 PM – Meeting called to order.
Opening prayer – Grand Knight.
Officer role call – Not present were trustee (Dan Merry), warden (Chris Kitt), advocate (Joe Fernandez), inside guard (Ken Welch), and chancellor (Dale Lemoges).
Merlyn Wiese made a motion to waive the reading of the reading the minutes; motion was seconded by Tony Slack. Motion passed.
Tony Slack asked us to let him know if we know anyone who might be interested in joining the Knights.
Grand Knight’s report: Kendall has a plan to try to spread spending throughout the year.
We have breakfast fund raiser planned for June 3rd (pancakes and sausage). Additional breakfasts this year are planned for July 8th, August 25th, and October 7th.
Treasures report: $21,610 in checking ($4,000 allocated to this years scholarships. Also $8,000 is from a donation from Bill Geneser that was directed for scholarships. $9,610 in available funds), $16,700 in CD. The $8,000 remaining from Bill Geneser’s scholarship donation will be disturbed over the next 8 years; $1,000 per year.
Larry Evans request for donation towards Miracle Park handicap baseball facility. Tom Letsch make a motion to make a $250 donation, Merlyn Wiese seconded the motion; motion passed.
40 cans for lent was a huge success. Food had been donated to Connections Café, the Granger Food Bank, and Deb Feik’s homeless mission.
State convention report: Travis Risvold told us about an online Knights of Columbus site. Prospective members are able to learn about the Knights of Columbus and actually join online. New members could go to meetings, but they would need to be 1st degree in order to vote. There was a presentation about adult stem cell research in Iowa City at the St. John Paul the 2nd Medical Research Institute.
$499 was allocated for Right to Life, and $200 quarterly to Fr. Dominic.
Ghana Scholarships: Kendall proposed $2,500 donation ($350 high school scholarships, and $700 college scholarships to be distributed by Father Dominic). Mostion made by Tony Slack for funding, seconded by Merlyn Wiese; motion passed.
43 priests are buried at Glendale Cemetery. Jim Duffy from Holy Trinity Council 14049 has a program to maintain grave site decorations. Travis made a motion to donate $100, Larry Spellerberg seconded the motion; motion passed.
Officer nominations: Tom Letsch has agreed to be financial secretary, Phil Stanislov has agreed to serve as deputy grand knight, and Dec. Dennis Wright will serve as Lecturer. All other positions will remain the same. Mike Music made a motion to accept the slate of officers, travis seconded the motion; motion passed.
There will be steak night/Knights of Columbus benefits presentation at out meeting in July (Spouses will be welcome.)
Good of the order:
529 accounts can now be used to fund private primary education.
Steve Small is in the hospital with pneumonia.
This Year’s Hotrods & Hogs will be held on Saturday, August 4th from 10:00am to 2:00pm.
Quarterly audit will be June 30th.
