Opening Prayer by Deacon Tom.
Officers’ roll call was taken; Dan Merry was absent
Motion to accept minutes as written by Tony Slack, seconded by Steve Rodgriguez–approved.
Chaplain’s Ministry: Skipped due to timing (1st degree ceremony)
Grand Knight Report: Welcome to the new Knights who’ve joined. Thanks to Ken Welch, Ken Wiley, and Mark Reed for the delicious meal.
Chaplain’s Report: Don’t forget about prayer and Adoration on Sunday, at 4pm. At 5pm the Adult Faith Formation team will show “7 Deadly Sins.”
District Deputy Report: 2nd and 3rd degree will be held in Ankeny at 5 PM on the 22nd. April 6th in Nevada. Can ride with Shannon to Ankeny. 4th degree (the patriotic order) will be at the state convention on May 2nd and we have several who are planning to attend.. State convention is May 2, 3 and 4th. The state is also holding a special fundraiser for Special Olympics—an airplane pull. Teams of 20 guys or so raise a minimum of $1,000 and then have the chance to pull an airplane as a team. The state is also looking for volunteers for convention—see Tony, Travis, or Shannon if you want to help.
Treasurer and Financial Secretary Report (with Fish Fry FYI): Checking is $4331 and CD is $13,319… Fish fry went well, had an add’l $1,000 in profit….first fry made $2,813…we’re making $8 per head, which is good…we’ll be short on help due to Spring Break, prep is at 3:30pm on Thurs and setup is at 3:30pm on Fri. Everyone is invited to hang out at Ken’s barn after the fry’s. Only 26 members of the council have not paid dues. Our fee to the state for those guys is about $500—so we need to reach out to ‘em.
Old Business: Ken Welch and Joe Henkels will tear out the old dishwasher on April 3rd, and the new one comes in on April 4th. Family of the Year for our council is Shannon and Cindy Godwin; Knight of the Year is Dale Limoges. The state and supreme councils are offering incentives for recruitment—see Shannon to know more.
New Business: Joppa cleanup is April 5th; see Joe Henkels if you want to help. Founders’ Week (March 22-30th) is the scheduled time to do fraternal activities. Knights Masses are 04/20 and 05/11 at 8am. Our council is starting a “rosary fine”—if you don’t have a rosary of some sort with you, it’s a $1 fine, with the money going into Pennies From Heaven. Tony moved and Joe Fernandez seconded to donate $100 to vocations through the KC from our Pennies From Heaven—all in favor, motion approved. Father Remi, Jodi Bermel, and Fred Tiernan are on the Scholarship committee. The KC discussed the need for the requirements to be spelled out for applicants (members of Assumption who write letters of application to Father). The KC council felt it was important that young Assumption members show a) parish involvement, b) youth group involvement, c) community involvement, and d) family involvement…with some weight to GPA. Motion made by Joe Fernandez, seconded by Ken Welch, to give $3,000 for KC scholarships, in amounts of $500 to 1,000, as applicants meet the above criteria—all in favor, motion approved. Iowa Catholic Radio’s CareAThon is coming up as well, and some Knights are requested to come on the air and help raise money for ICR. While there is an anonymous donor who matches funds already, Joe Henkels moved (Jodi Bermel seconded) to have KC 12130 match the first $200 raised on ICR when our Knights are on air at our scheduled time—all in favor, motion approved. Ken Welch also mentioned his son is joining the Franciscans in Sept. 2014.
Good of the Order: Chris Kitt wanted to thank the KC’s for their prayers for his mother in law and his family, and to praise God for the power of prayer. Pam’s mom had multiple organs fail and went on our prayer chain at 2:15; by 5pm she had begun recovering, and a transplant liver was found for her on Sunday. Her surgery was completed on Mon morning, and she is doing exceedingly well. Thanks again from Chris, Pam, and their whole family. Joe Henkels mentioned we have nice letters from Deacon Tom which can be used for recruitment—to let men know they’re good candidates for the order.
Motion to close the meeting and seconded at 8:55.
