Assumption Knights of Columbus Meeting Minutes – July 18, 2019
Meeting preceded by Installation Mass and meal
Roll call – Not present: Treasurer Paul Martin, Advocate Bill Grell.
Tony Slack made a motion to waive the reading of the minutes, Kendall Geneser seconded the motion; motion passed.
Grand Knight expressed gratitude to Kendall for his years of service! Phil also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as Grand Knight.
District Deputy also thanked Kendall for his service and professionalism.
Treasure communicated financial report prior to the meeting. $4,787 in checking, $16,967 in CD, and $7,160 in Bill Geneser Scholarship CD.
Financial Secretary reported on training in Dubuque. Tom indicated that we should form a retention committee. The committee will consist of Tom Letsch, Joe Henkels, Dale Lemoges, and Travis Risvold. In cases where we are unable to collect dues, the committee will vote to forgo dues or in some cases work to remove inactive members from the roster. Shannon Godwin may be able to set up an online payment system for dues.
Shannon reported on Hot Rods and Hogs. Ken Welch is cooking, Dan is smoking the meat, and Ken Wiley is in charge of corn and dash plaques. Joe Christiansen is in charge of Kitchen. Tony and Mary will be cooking corn.
Ken Wiley mentioned that the British Car Club of Iowa will be attending Hot Rods and Hogs.
Dave Nixon reported on CPID Tootsie Roll fundraiser. We will be set at Caseys and Fareway next weekend Friday/Saturday during 141 garage sale. See signup genius.
Steve Small has made tents available and had donated door prizes for Hot Rods and Hogs.
We recently had a request to help a woman move away from an abusive situation. ~8 knights showed up. It all went very well, and the woman was very appreciative of all the help.
Wade Derry donated a kidney. He is doing well, but please keep him in your prayers.
Larry Spellerberg reported that we have an omelet breakfast planned for Sunday, July 28th. We will serve after both the 8 AM and 10 AM Masses. Proceeds will benefit the Ghana well project. Our next breakfast will be in late August on the Saturday during Granger Days.
Joe Henkels (Chancelor) expressed the need new member recruiting and also reported on the upcoming Joppa down and out fundraiser.
August 17th is the K of C golf tournament.
Funeral Setups – we need to pay attention to these requests. Sometimes there is short notice, but help is really needed.
Phil mentioned attaching calendar to our E-mails. This may help with scheduling. He will also be working on the kitchen helper list for monthly meetings.
The next regularly scheduled meeting would fall on August 15th which is our Parish feast day. We will move the meeting to the following Tuesday, August 20th. We will be making some extra food for Hot Rods and Hogs that we can serve at the Parish feast day following the evening Mass.
Ken Wiley reported on the VA Hospital Veterans Therapy Garden. $80K has been raised. Total estimated costs are $90K, so $10K is still needed. They will be selling bricks. 4×8 bricks are $250, and 8×8 bricks are $500. Clip art for engraving all branches of service is available. $2,000 had been donated by our council and $1,000 by our 4th degree chapter. These funds will be matched, so $6,000 of funds have been raised through out council member’s involvement in this project!
Travis reported that candy and pop bingo will be this coming Sunday at 2PM in the Granger nursing home. The group will meet at 1:45 in the church to gather supplies.
This meeting was held in the adult faith room. It went quite well. We will move our future meetings to this room.
Thelma Meyer’s son; Dan passed away. Please keep Dan and Thelma’s family in your prayers.
