January 2019 Minutes
Knights of Columbus Meeting January 17, 2019.
Meeting preceded by Rosary, Mass, and meal.
7:40 PM – Meeting called to order.
Opening prayer – Grand Knight.
Officer role call – Not present were lecturer (Dec. Dennis Wright), financial secretary (Tom Letsch, and advocate (Joe Fernandez).
Tony Slack made a motion to waive the reading of the minutes. Mary Herrmann seconded the motion; motion passed.
Kendall suggested purchasing some new tables and chairs to replace some of our aging ones. Merlyn and Tony agreed to do some research to come up with available options
Church bulletins stuffed during meeting.
Treasures report: $5,040 in checking, $16,967 in 1 year CD earning 2.75%, and $8,000 in Bill Geneser Scholarship CD.
No financial secretary report. No district deputy report.
We receive a thank you cart from Joppa. The Christmas party was a big success. More than 500 people were served. We ran out of food, 40 pizzas were ordered, and Ken’s wife was able to negotiate for an additional 15 free pizzas.
Next breakfast scheduled for January 27th. Menu is biscuits & gravy and scrambled eggs. Breakfast proceeds will benefit Gigi’s Playhouse https://gigisplayhouse.org
There will be an officers meeting during the breakfast at 9:45 AM, January 25th. The primary point of discussion will be the endowment fund.
We need volunteers to serve as door guards during RE classes on Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evenings. Check the signup genius (link sent by E-mail).
We need to label and date all of our food stored at church by February 1st. The kitchen gets inspected by the state periodically.
Deb Feick needs kelp organizing
The 40 cans for lent drive. Joe Henkels volunteered to help with this.
Marty Herrmann talked about 4th degree assembly 3378. The assembly is formed from several councils, but participation is dominated by our council members. 60% of those at the 4th degree Christmas party were Granger Knights. Joe Henkels Ken Wiley and Shannon talked about the VA therapy garden. https://vatherapygarden.org/ Ken and Joe were interviewed on “We are Iowa”. Bingo is This Sunday at the Granger nursing home. Plan to meet at church at 1:45.
Raffle tickets were handed out for a drawing at the K of C state convention May 3-5.
