January 2018 Minutes
Knights of Columbus Meeting January 18, 2018.
Meeting preceded by Rosary, Mass, and meal.
Opening prayer – Grand Knight
Officer role call – Not present were treasurer (Paul Martin), and lecturer (Dc. Tom Schenk), advocate (Joe Fernandez), trustee (Travis Risvold).
December meeting minutes were recorded by Ken Wiley. They were not posted yet. Marty Herrmann mad a motion to waive the reading of the reading the minutes, motion seconded by Merlyn Wiese. Motion passed.
Chaplain’s message – Deacon Dennis Wright asked us to think about “what drives us to be faithful?”, “what drives us to be Catholics?”, “are we faithful catholics?”. He talked about a “crisis of faith” in our society.
We welcome two (new) members to our council! Marty Wernimont is a 4th degree, and Larry Adams is a 3rd degree.
New district deputy Dennis Westover talked about a LIH trip August 2-3 (Thursday-Friday) $50 each + transportation and logging.
Treasurer’s Report – $10,395 checking (includes $9,000 from donation directed for scholarship funds), $16,700 in CD at 1.6% interest.
Financial secretary has bills for dues ready. They were available at the meeting. Remaining bills will be mailed.
Grand Knight wants each of us to forward service our hours for 2017
Coats for kids – 2 boxes of 12 coats each + hats and gloves were ordered and delivered before Christmas. They were delivered to Woodward Granger and Grimes schools and split between boys and girls.
Joppa Christmas party – ~350 people were served in two serving lines. Menu included turkey, ham, corn casserole, green beans, and stuffing. It went very well. Thanks to all who helped.
4th degree report (Ken Wiley) – Freedom rock/terrain garden update. Final design meeting is tomorrow morning. Total cost of project is expected to be $130K – $140K.
40 cans food drive. We needed a chairperson so Joe Henkels nominated a knight that was not present (Kenny O’Brien). Tony Slack seconded the nomination, and the nomination passed.
Shannon Godwin talked about our upcoming fish frys. The first fish fry will be preceded by a prep night Thursday, February 15th which is also our next K of C meeting date.
We discussed whether or not to have a free throw night. Joe Henkels nominated Craig (another knight not present). Nomination was seconded by Ken Welch, and the nomination passed.
Our new K of C insurance agent was present. His name is Steven Youngs, and he is from Sacred Heart Parish.
Joe Henkels mentioned an upcoming 2nd and 3rd degree meeting scheduled for February 11th at noon at St. Pius.
