Assumption Knights of Columbus Officers Meeting Minutes – April 16, 2020.
Due to Covid-19, March and April Council meetings were canceled. Officers convened an online Zoom meeting April 16th.
Meeting called to order 7:00 PM.
Roll call – Present: Grand Knight: Phil Stanislav, Deputy Grand Knight: Merlyn Wiese, Treasurer: Paul Martin, Financial Secretary: Tom Letsch, Chancellor: Joe Henkels, Warden: Paul Hauser, Inside Guard: Ken Welch, Trustees: Travis Risvold & Kendall Geneser, and Recorder: Dan Altier.
Knights of Columbus State convention was called off because of Covid-19. Necessary business was taken care of online. The organizers have suggested still having a party after things got back to normal. Phil Suggested that expenses saved by not having the convention could be put to more charitable use. There was agreement on this.
We have a donation request for “Pennies from Heaven” which benefits seminarians. In addition, we have K of C convention raffle tickets to sell which also benefit seminarians. It was suggested to forgo the raffle tickets and make a single $250 donation to Pennies from Heaven to directly benefit the seminarians. Travis made a motion to donate $250 for this purpose, Kendall seconded the motion; motion passed.
We discussed Knights Scholarships. Funding levels will be discussed at a later date when hopefully the entire council can meet. A scholarship committee was formed which will be led by Travis Risvold. Other members are Jodi Bermel, Joe Henkels, Merlyn Wiese (non-voting member as he has a child that would likely be competing for a scholarship) and Dan Altier.
We had a net profit of ~$5,550 from our abbreviated fish fry season. We discussed the possibility of using $5,500 from the Council CD fund to make up for the lack of proceeds from the canceled fish frys. This would allow us to continue our charitable giving at typical levels. This is especially important when we are likely to see even greater than normal need.
We discussed funding a table at the annual Intervisions Gala fundraiser. The table cost is $927 for a table of 10. It was suggested to keep funding at previous year’s level. Kendall made a motion to donate $1,000 for this purpose, Paul Hauser seconded the motion; motion passed.
We discussed our typical $1,000 donation to the Catholic Women’s Club which rewards the Women’s Club for all their help at the fish frys. We discussed making a $500 donations now while anticipating another $500 donation if we follow through as suggested by using $5,500 from the CD to restore annual funding levels. Kendall made a motion to donate the $500 now, Joe Henkels seconded the motion, motion passed.
It is likely that we will be forced to meet like this again in May.
8:00 PM meeting adjourned.
