Assumption Knights of Columbus Meeting Minutes – January 16, 2020.
Meeting preceded by Rosary, Mass, and meal.
Prior to the meeting Jim Mower from Camp Sunnyside thanked us for out donation and told us about the services that Camp Sunnyside provides.
Welcome to 4 new members to our council! (Tom Stahowick, Rich Long, James Stephen, and Andrew Danner)
Meeting called to order 7:35 PM
Roll call – Not present: Grand Knight: Phil Stanislav, Financial Secretary: Tom Letsch, Lecturer Dennis Wright, Advocate: Bill Grell, and Trustees: Kendall Geneser and Shannon Godwin.
Tony Slack made a motion to waive the reading of the minutes, Dave Watznauer seconded the motion; motion passed.
Chaplains message: Fr. Dominic reminded us that Lent is coming soon. We should all give up something that is difficult to give up requiring self-modification and discipline.
Merlyn relayed thanks from Phil for all we do; Knights Masses, Joppa Christmas party, Knights Breakfasts, etc.
District Deputy report: We should focus on inviting new members instead of recruiting them.
Safe environment training (we need at least 1 trained member per six children present).
State convention is April 17-19 in Sioux City.
Exemplification changes: No more 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree; all will concurrent at initial joining. No more secrecy. Ceremony will be in church, and family members can attend.
Treasure’s report: $6,018 in checking, $17,433 in CD (renewed, 10-month term at 1.9%), and $7,160 in Bill Geneser Scholarship CD. ~250 in unpaid bills.
Joppa Christmas Party: 398 people were fed. The event went very well.
Our council K of C checking account was hacked. A fraud claim and police report were filed. The balance was drained, but our bank has taken care of the matter, and we now have a more secure checking account.
Next Knights breakfast is planed for January 26th. Proceeds to go to outreach ministries.
Larry would like to pass off breakfast organization duties.
Fish fry support – Ash Wednesday is February 26th. Shannon has passed the torch. Tom Letsch, Doug Elbert, Dave Watznauer, and Merlyn Wiese are all taking on roles. We will need lots more help on Thursdays and Fridays!
We need to capture volunteer hours to help demonstrate non-profit status to the IRS.
Officers meeting is planned for last Saturday in January or one of the first two Saturdays in February.
InterVisions is looking for a host for their fundraiser next year. We determined that we are willing to do this again.
Our next council meeting will be February 20th.
