Assumption Knights of Columbus Meeting Minutes – August 20, 2019
Rescheduled meeting due to the Feast of the Assumption.
Meeting preceded by Installation Adoration and meal.
Called to Order 7:40 PM
Roll call – Not present: Treasurer Paul Martin, Advocate Bill Grell, Deputy Grand Knight Merlyn Wiese, Warden Paul Hauser, Trustees Travis Risvold, Shannon Godwin, and Kendall Geneser.
Marty Herrmann made a motion to waive the reading of the minutes, Joe Henkels seconded the motion; motion passed.
Grand Knight expressed gratitude for all the help with events lately. It really helps when fellow Knights step up and take the lead!
Treasure communicated financial report prior to the meeting. $7,830 in checking, $16,967 in CD, and $7,160 in Bill Geneser Scholarship CD.
Chaplains message: Adult faith is presenting a biblical study of the Old Testament starting September 9th. Thank you for supporting the Ghana well project! The rectory part of this project is now complete. Fr. Dominic will not be at the meeting next month. Dec. Dennis will lead a communion service. Fr. Will be leaving for Ghana following mass on September 15th. He will be cone for six weeks.
Theresa Welch talked to the Knights during the meal preceding the meeting. Assumption will be hosting this year’s Intervisions Clinic fundraiser dinner/auction this year. The event will be held on Saturday, September 28th. ~200 people are expected. Ken will be doing the cooking. Ken is planning on cooking steak, red potatoes, green beans almondine, salad, and hard roll. Ken will need cooking help from at least four people. Kendall is taking charge of the beer and wine. Shannon is providing the audio visual. Tables of 8 will be sold for $400. There will be a matching table available for the first 12 tables sold. The new Intervisions clinic is at 500 Army Post Road and is part of a larger no-profit human services complex. They will be moving into the clinic during the week of September 14th.
Financial secretary Tom Letsch reported honorary Knights memberships for Stephen Loy, Douglas Evans, Deacon Tom, and Richard Faber. The committee is working through inactive members to see if they should be removed from the roster.
Hot rods and hogs: Ken Wiley mentioned that we should get a thank you letter to Christiansen’s who donated 25 dozen ears of sweet corn. Dale Lemoges discussed possibly moving Hot Rods & Hogs to a different weekend. We have difficulty recruiting enough help for both Hot Rods & Hogs and the PID Tootsie Roll drive. Joe Henkels mentioned that Travis is taking over coordination of the PID Tootsie Roll Drive. Hopefully Travis will be successful with recruiting.
We received the 2018/2019 Columbian Award recognizing volunteer hours.
The recent breakfast benefitting the Ghana well project was quite successful with more than $1,000 proceeds. Thanks to all who helped!
Next breakfast is Scheduled during Granger Days, Saturday August 23rd from 8-10AM.
Gretchen Watznauer has requested a breakfast to benefit the youth group NCYC trip. Next two breakfasts are scheduled for September 15th and October 13th. Tom made a motion to have one of these breakfasts (Gretchen’s choice) benefit the NCYC trip; Marty seconded the motion; motion passed.
Joppa Christmas Party Dinner is planned for December 21st. Down and out fundraiser is scheduled for November 2nd.
Joe Henkels talked about recruitment. We need to seek parishioners out and ask them to join. We need to welcome new parishioners, and we need to encourage fellow Knights to attend our meetings and get more involved.
We will be helping needy gentleman (Dennis Steele) in Grimes with a move. Scott Sterbenz and Phil Stanislav have volunteered. The move is tentatively planned for the morning of Saturday, August 31st.
