August 2018 Minutes
Knights of Columbus Meeting August 16, 2018.
Meeting preceded by Rosary, Mass, and meal.
7:50 PM – Meeting called to order.
Opening prayer – Grand Knight.
Officer role call – Not present were financial secretary (Tom Letsch), and warden (Chris Kitt).
Chaplain’s message: Dec. Dennis Wright told us to be thankful we are not in jail, but pray for those that are in jail. As Christ said “Forgive them Father, they know not what they do”. Most of these people are much less fortunate, and their upbringing is a contributing factor.
Marty Herrmann made a motion to waive the reading of the minutes & Ken Wiley seconded the motion; motion passed.
There was a video first degree ceremony prior to the meeting. Welcome and congratulations to Bill Grell.
Our Knights insurance rep will be presenting at our September meeting which will be a steak night (Sept. 20).
Treasures report: $7,566 in checking, $2,500 in funds yet to be deposited. $8,000 in Bill Geneser donated scholarship fund CD, and $16,700 in endowment CD.
$531 proceeds from “The Feast of the Assumption” meal. There were expenses totaling $140 (we also used buns and sweet corn left over from “Hot Rods and Hogs”). $195 will go to Catholic Women’s club.
Hot Rods and Hogs was a big success. Even a bit of rain did not scare any cars away. We had $1520 in profit which went to Woodward Granger Volunteer Social Services.
The Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (PID) Tootsie Roll Drive was also a big success. Friday evening was added to the drive this year which brought in $400. The total proceeds for the PID drive was $1,964 (In addition we have $300 which was raised last year).
Dec. Dennis Wright gave us an update on Dorothy’s House. We have a $500 donation earmarked for Dorothy’s house, but there were rumors that it had closed. These were rumors. There has been some staffing turnover. We will do some further investigation to see what the needs really are.
Upcoming Christ Our Life Conference will be held September 29 & 30 starting at 8 AM daily. Tickets are on sale now, and they are still looking for volunteers. Check out http://www.christourlifeiowa.com/
We will be serving a breakfast during Granger Days Saturday, August 25 from 8AM-10AM. We will need 6-8 Knights to help with the breakfast.
We have been subsidizing Fr. Dominic with $200/quarter. Dan Merry will get $200 in gift cards for this purpose.
Bill Grell talked about the upcoming Assumption fall auction which will be November 3rd. Ken Welch will be doing the cooking. Kenny Obrien was nominated to emcee the event. There is a need for people to serve on the auction committee and help identify and solicit donation of items for the auction.
We still need volunteers to sign up to serve as security during religious education on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings. During the meeting, Ken Welch volunteered for Wednesday evenings, and Dave Nixon volunteered to serve as a backup for Wednesday evenings.
There is an Intervisions fundraiser October 6th at St. Johns Catholic Church in Norwalk. Admission is $50/ person. Tables seat 8. Our K of C insurance agent has offered to provide a table if we purchase one. Travis Risvold made a motion to spend $200 to purchase ½ of a table and Ken Wiley seconded the motion; motion passed. Dan Merry offered to pay for the other half of a table. We have two tables paid for at the fundraiser. Please let Kendal know if you are interested in going.
Meeting adjourned 8:30 PM.
