April 2018 Minutes
Knights of Columbus Meeting April 19, 2018.
Meeting preceded by Rosary, Mass, 1st degree ceremony and meal.
8:10 PM – Meeting called to order.
Opening prayer – Grand Knight.
Officer role call – Not present were trustees (Travis Risvold & Dan Merry), warden (Chris Kitt), lecturer (Dc. Tom Schenk), advocate (Joe Fernandez).
Joe Henkels made a motion to waive the reading of the reading the minutes; motion was seconded by Tony Slack. Motion passed.
We had a first degree ceremony prior to the meeting and welcome our newest members Doug Elbert & Greg Menke. Congratulations and welcome to Doug and Greg!
Parish cleanup will be this Saturday starting at 8:00AM.
District deputy report: Thank you to district 35 councils. This is the top recruiting district in Iowa. 18 new members in March. Next state convention will be at the Des Moines Marriot.
Treasurer’s report: 23,431 in checking, $16,700 in CD. $9,000 of the funds in checking are from a donation directed towards scholarships. There was discussion about how to use the donation. Does the donation partially replace some of the money that we would otherwise allocate to scholarships, or does it add to the money that we give out for scholarships? What kind of time frame was intended by the donor. Kendal will check on the intentions of the donor. A scholarship committee (Shannon Godwin, Ken Welch, Larry Spellerberg, and Merlyn Weisse) was formed to come up with a plan for scholarship money.
Tony made a motion to allocate $3,000 to this year’s scholarships; Merlyn seconded the motion; motion passed.
Thank you letters were received from Divine Mercy for chaplet orders and from the Tamanique social justice committee.
Shannon Godwin presented results for the fish frys. Shannon purchased peanut butter and jelly from the fish fry food supplier for Deb Feick to support her homeless ministry. Ken Welch mad a motion to cover the $78.84 cost; Greg seconded the motion; motion passed. Total revenue from the fish frys was $25,326.80. Food cost was $12,321. Total profit $13,005.17. We served 3,145 guests which is an increase of 377 guests over last year. Ken Welch made a motion to donate $1,000 to the women’s club for their assistance; Ken Wiley seconded the motion; motion passed.
Tony made a motion to pay $499 for a table at the Intervisions fund raising dinner; Greg seconded the motion, motion passed. Kendal will send out an ivite to see who is interested in attending.
This year’s K of C breakfast dates have been planned. The dates are 6/3, 7/8, 8/25, 10/7, 11/4, and 12/2.
A committee was formed to nominate officers (Tony Slack, Merlyn Weisse, and Tom Letsch).
Joe Henkels presented on Mary’s Meals. 1.2 million grade school age children are fed daily, and all food is prepared by volunteers. $20 will feed a child for a year. Joe is providing a banner, and asked us to donate $325 for a banner stand. Ken Wiley made a motion to provide the $325; Ken Welch seconded the motion; motion passed.
June meeting will be a steak fry night with a presentation by our new K of C insurance agent.
Fr. Dominic encouraged us to attend the adult faith formation 12 part program on the Bible and the virgin Mary which will start on April 30th.
Shannon will place a T-shirt order next Thursday. An E-mail reminder will be sent out.
