Knights of Columbus Meeting April 20, 2017.
7:45 PM meeting called to order.
Officer role call – Not present were: chancellor (Merlyn Wiese), warden (Chris Kitt), lecturer (Dec. Tom Schenk).
Marty Herrmann made a motion to waive the reading of the minutes; seconded by Travis Risvold; motion passed.
Grand Knight’s repot. State convention was April 7-9. Kendal and Steve Rodreguez attended. 137 new 4th degree members.
District deputy Jamie still needs our prayers for his back. New surgery.
Treasures report: $13,209 in checking. $15,000 in CD.
Fish Fry Proceeds (Shannon Godwin): 2014 $8,600, 2015 $9,300, 2016 $10,000, 2017 $11,898.
Dale Lemoges made a motion to share 10% of the proceeds from the fish frys with the Catholic Women’s Club; Ken Welch seconded the motion; motion passed.
Steve Rodriguez talked about membership dues. We have a list of delinquent Knights. Travis is the retention committee. Tony will also help. Some Knights may have just forgotten to send in dues.
Kendall talked about upcoming recruitment efforts. We will have “pulpit talks” and we will be passing out K of C information after mass.
Joppa homeless cleanup was successful. Many knights participated. Joe Henkels reported that 33 tons of garbage was collected.
Fish fry report by Shannon Godwin. We had lots of help on Thursdays. It was an amazing group effort. Everything was accomplished even when Shannon could not be there. Special thanks to Ken Wiley for hospitality after fish frys.
Dan Merry reported on “Marigolds for Mother’s Day”. Marigolds are 52 cents each. 650 have been ordered. Youth group will wrap them up. Travis motioned to spend $600 for flowers. This was seconded by Joe Fernandez; motion passed. Extra money will go to youth group. This effort is a youth group fundraiser.
K of C Scholarships: Fred Tiernan talked about the scholarships we have offered in the past and made a motion to provide $3,000 in scholarships to graduating high school students from Assumption. The motion was seconded by Tom; motion passed. Committee will be Fr. Dominic, Fred, Shannon Godwin, and Dan Altier.
Tony Slack: In May we will have tootsie pops for Culture of Life. Conception to natural death. This will be at Casey’s and Fareway from 8-12.
K of C field agent Charles Stastny attended our April meeting. Charles reminded us of the fraternal life insurance benefits provided by the Knights of Columbus, and encouraged us to contact him with any needs. Charles also told us that he could provide a customized K of C brochure for our council.
There is a parish grounds spring cleanup planned for an upcoming Saturday morning.
Church cleaning is planned for this Friday at 4PM.
Book holders have been installed in the church. Marty Herrmann made a motion to provide $1,000 in funding for the book holders. Dan Merry seconded the motion; motion passed.
Dan Merry made a motion to provide $2,500 for a Ghana scholarship fund. Jodi Bermel seconded the motion; motion passed. We will provide the funds, but we may have a fundraiser to help with the funds. We may try to this around Father’s birthday (June 7th).
Dec. Dennis Wright message: In this Easter season, where did Jesus go? We make Jesus present. Jesus is in the church. Dennis also talked about Our Lady of Fátima.
Joe Henkels reported that there will be an Intervisions Clinic banquet on June 1st.
Dan Merry will take over the prayer E-mail requests from the Grand Knight.
